How To Get To Lombok

Lombok Indonesia is located within the Nusa Tenggara Barat province. The most common way to reach the island is by air, with direct flights from major cities in Indonesia and international connections from neighboring countries. You can fly into Lombok International Airport (LOP), located in Praya, around 40 kilometers south of Mataram, the capital city of Lombok.

If you’re already in Bali, you have the option of a short and scenic flight from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar to Lombok. In just about 30 minutes, you’ll find yourself on Lombok’s beautiful shores, saving you time and hassle.

For those who prefer a more adventurous journey, traveling by sea is also an option. Regular fast boat services operate between Bali and Lombok, departing from Padang Bai in Bali and arriving at Lembar Harbor in Lombok. It’s a delightful crossing over the Lombok Strait, taking around 1.5 to 2 hours.

If you have your own wheels, you can even bring your car or motorcycle on a public ferry from Padang Bai to Lembar Harbor. The ferry ride takes a bit longer, around 4-5 hours, but it’s a relaxed and scenic way to travel, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding islands.

Once you’ve arrived in Lombok, there are plenty of transportation options to explore the island. Taxis, ride-hailing services, and private car rentals are available at the airport and harbor, making it easy to get around. You can also hop on a public bus or a colorful minibus called a bemo for an authentic local experience.

Best Time To Visit Lombok

Indonesia has a tropical climate with two seasons, the raining season and the dry season. Like its neighbor Bali, Lombok can be visited at any time of the year. The climate in Lombok remains pleasant the entire year, due a tropical climate. In other word is hot all year round, with a rainy season from November to March, and a relatively dry season from April to October.

The best time to visit Lombok is between June and September, during the dry season. Dry season is the best time to climb Mount Rinjani, and enjoy the sandy beaches.

As you set foot on Pink Beach Lombok, you’ll be greeted by the mesmerizing sight of crystal-clear waters, inviting you to take a refreshing dip. And if you’re feeling a bit adventurous, there are some delightful jump rocks to add an extra element of fun to your visit.

6. Bukit Selong Ricefield Viewpoint

While we’re on the topic of hikes and viewpoints why not consider the Bukit Selong viewpoint over the carpeted Sembalun ricefields?

Unlike the previous two, this Lombok viewpoint doesn’t require much hiking, just a quick walk up the hill at the back of town.

Bukit Selong is a great place to visit for either sunrise or sunset, and even though it’s not very high, the views are pretty spectacular.

7. Explore The Sekotong Peninsula

Although it’s arguably one of the least visited regions of Lombok, Sekotong is a place full of adventure.

From white sandy beaches, thousands of islands with crystal clear water to explore, and one of the best coastal roads to drive on in Lombok, Sekotong should definitely be added to your Lombok itinerary.

8. Kuta Lombok Bat Cave – Bangkang Cave

9. Day Trip from Gili Trawangan

Gili Trawangan is a wonderful place to visit with tons of things to do and plenty of sights to see. However, it’s relatively small when compared to other tourist destinations and you can easily experience everything on offer in a day or two. For anyone staying for an extended period of time on Gili Trawangan we recommend doing a day trip from Gili Trawangan as there are some really interesting activities available on surrounding islands that you wouldn’t want to miss out on!

10. Explore Gili Meno Island

Gili Meno is one of three islands (along with Gili Air and Gili Trawangan) which make up a small archipelago off northwest Lombok. The whole island has only about 3,000 inhabitants and is known for its tranquil atmosphere and pristine beaches. In addition to enjoying a relaxing day at one of Gili Meno’s most popular beach areas – Batu Bolong Beach – don’t miss out on swimming with wild dolphins while snorkeling or sailing to nearby stunning Bali.

11. Sunset at Tanjung Aan Beach

After a day exploring Gili Trawangan and Senggigi, you’ll be rewarded with a wonderful sunset at Tanjung Aan Beach. This remote beach can only be reached by boat but is absolutely worth it—especially when you’re sitting on one of the cliffside terraces overlooking what is likely one of your favorite places in all of Lombok. Don’t forget to dip your toes into clear water while watching beautiful orange hues paint across an idyllic sky. The perfect way to wrap up any visit to Gili Trawangan!

12. Enjoy Mekaki Beach

In my opinion, one of the best beaches in Lombok is Mekaki Beach. This beach reminds me a little of those on Nusa Penida, with thick, deep sand and jagged, Jurassic cliffs edged by amazing turquoise waters. I’m serious- the water here is seriously blue. However, it can get a little rough when the swell picks up.

Mekaki Beach is located on the southern shores of Sekotong, which requires a little long, but well-worth ride if you’re staying in Kuta Lombok.

Even if you don’t swim, checking out the beach is still one of the best free things to do in Lombok!

If you’re traveling to Lombok with a flexible schedule and got some extra time in Indonesia, I highly recommend embarking on a remarkable 4-day, 3-night boat trip from Lombok to Komodo Island. This experience is undoubtedly one of the finest you can have in Lombok.

Personally, Flores is one of my best trip I had in Indonesia. I found this boat trip to be an absolutely epic adventure and an exceptional value for money. 14. Enjoy Local Food at Senggigi Beach

When traveling to a new country, it’s a good idea to try and get your hands on local delicacies whenever possible. Lombok has its fair share of culinary delights; one of them is Sate Madura , or barbecued meat skewers served with peanut sauce. Available throughout Lombok, especially near tourist spots like Senggigi Beach, sate can be found at roadside stands and sold by street vendors.
